Thoughts:
I was very happy with this costume as it'd turned out how I planned. It was simple to make and a lot of fun, in particular the hat, as it was definitely a learning experience.
The costume was light and comfortable to wear for the whole day. The hat itself was quite heavy to wear after a while though, If I had to remake any aspect of this costume it would be the hat. As I didn't leave quite enough room to wear it with a wig.

- Manga Version -
Reason for making this costume:
I loved Meroko Yui's design in "Full Moon" as soon as I saw it, plus it didn't seem too complicated to make. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I was capable of making this costume to an accurate standard. This costume also allowed me to try new materials and experiment with different patterns.
How I made the costume:
Hat -
The hat is a big part of this costume (literally), so I decided to start there. A pattern was drafted first on paper and then transferred to cardboard and white card. The brown cardboard makes up the brim and side crown, whilst the white card makes up the top crown of the hat. I reused the patterns to re-cut them out of black PVC. I folded and sewed the edges over on all the individual PVC pieces and glued them to the hat. For the brim I left an excess which I sealed by going over the edge with a sewing machine.
The ears are made from white faux fur with peach coloured felt appliquéd on top. I inserted wire inside both the ears, poked a hole through either side of the hat threaded through and secured. The white ruffle is white poly cotton machine gathered, then popped over the top of the hat with red ribbon added. Red ribbon was also added to the brim and hand sewn into place.
Wings -
The wings started with two pieces of cardboard glued together. Both pieces were then covered with white craft foam feathers individually cut and stuck on. Underneath some feathers are strips of wire which allow the wings to curve inwards to avoid knocking into people when in crowded areas. A small piece of cardboard was glued to the middle on the inside and four hoops sewn on made from fabric interfacing. This allowed for two invisible straps to be clipped on, which allows the wings to be worn discreetly.
Bandeau -
A paper pattern was made first then transferred to white interfacing and black poly cotton sewn over the top. The ruffled hem is white poly cotton machine gathered, then sewn to the edges. A zip was installed in the middle, to exaggerate the zipper pull I made a new one from craft foam painted gold and then sew/glued to the original puller.
Skirt -
The fitted waist band was made first out of interfacing. The black poly cotton was measured, cut and machine gathered then sewn to the waistband. The white ruffle is white poly cotton, machine gathered then appliquéd on top of the waistband. The belt is separate, made from white card with red PVC material covered over and sewn. The ring is made out of plywood cut, sanded and painted gold. The rest of the details were appliquéd on.
Wrist cuffs and Necklace -
The wrist cuffs are black poly cotton with poly cotton striped material appliquéd over the top, the white ruffles on the edges were machine gathered and sewn on the inside. Velcro was used for the fastening.
The necklace is made out of black PVC with a gold metal buckle, holes were also punctured into the material to make it adjustable.
Shoe covers -
Black poly cotton machine gathered in the middle and sewn over to keep the ruffles in place, they have a slit at the back to allow a foot through, velcro is on the back for fastening.
