Reason for making this costume:
I ended up attending a convention last minute, so I had to come up with a quick costume. I didn't have much time to make a new costume from scratch, so I decided to purchase a cheap costume and modify it.
How I made the costume:
The Bodice -
The costume was too big, so firstly I started by deciding how much material I would need to take in before sewing. After pinning the material and sewing it in place, I cut off the excess to create a new seam at the back of the costume. The cape would hide this new seam.
Yellow glitter rope was hand sewn to the edges of the yellow strip at the front of the bodice for decoration.
The Puff Sleeves -
The puff sleeves sat too low on the shoulder, so had to be taken and rearranged so it would sit higher on the shoulder. I pinned, tacked and then sewed them into place by hand. To decorate the red ovals on the sleeves, red glitter rope was purchased and hand sewn to the edges for decoration.
The Cape -
I gathered sections of the cape near the neck line to give a more accurate look, a heart was also sewn to the center for decoration.
The Shoes -
The shoes were already bought, however the bows for the shoes were made from cream satin. Which were attached to the front of the shoes, with doubled sided tape.
The Wig -
The wig had to be completely restyled, as the wrong one was sent. Sheers were used to create layers in the wig and curlers to create the curls at the ends. Each section was hairsprayed to keep it's shape.
Thoughts:
This was a costume quickly modified to suit my needs. Although if I had more time, I would have made the costume myself using materials of a higher quality. As some parts of the costume felt a little on the cheap side.
